Teach the Joy and Power of Writing with 826 Digital

Our Write Your Way Curriculum is now available for the new school year!

“I write because I want to give life to my thoughts. I have stories that deserve to be remembered.”

—Carlos G., Grade 12, 826 Valencia

At 826 National, we believe in celebrating stories from every student. Whether it’s a story about feeling nervous during a Zoom class, an ode to tacos, or a poem about their first language, when students find power in their voice, they also find power in themselves.

That is why we are excited to introduce 826 Digital’s Write Your Way writing curriculum, now available for the 2021-22 school year! These flexible, four-week units are available in four grade bands spanning grades K-12. For educators, the curriculum offers an opportunity to build brave spaces for young writers and support social-emotional development through the writing process.

See the Write Your Way Curriculum for your grade band:

Each week, students connect with a different, authentic purpose for writing by responding to three writing prompts, reading a student mentor text, revising their favorite piece, and sharing their work with their peers. Over the course of the unit, students will write to reflect, to connect, to create, and to make a difference. They will write about topics like identity, community, and social change—finding power in their story by writing about what matters most.

What’s included:

  • Unit Calendar – Four weeks of writing lessons at-a-glance, with links to unit resources

  • Weekly Schedules – Lessons and activities for the week designed around the weekly purpose for writing

  • Student Mentor Texts – Published pieces from 826 students, aligned to the weekly purpose for writing

  • Revision Strategies – A new revision strategy is featured each week

  • Share Out Strategies – A new share out, community-building strategy is featured each week

Whether you opt to teach the entire unit or simply try a new Spark, we hope you join us by inviting students to write their way into this new school year!

“My hand is ready with a pencil to start a new future.”

—Rebecca L., Grade 5, 826 Boston
